If it means it still goes ahead instead of losing it and if it means less twats then I don't mind paying a few quid.

I heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody. Every great song by the Beach Boys. All the underground hits. All the Modern Lovers tracks. I heard you have a vinyl of every Niagra record on German import. I heard that you have a white label of every seminal Detroit techno hit - 1985, '86, '87. I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good '60s cut and another box set from the '70s.

There's a credit crunch on it dammit! Fair enough. We've had it good for so long. Other towns and cities have comparable festivals (usually with alot worse bills) and have always charged admission.

Gonna look at the Gazette board now. Strapping myself in...

i'd stand in front of a flying bullet to keep middlesbrough music live, so a charge isn't that much of an issue. It's the one single thing that i had to brag to my new found 'mates' at uni, was that i'd seen pretty much every up and coming band, for free, in boro - often on the same day. it should have charged a nominal fee fucking ages ago to rid it of all the chavvy idiots who make people like my little brother think it's not the sort of thing they're up for on a sunday in boro.

That, and of course when we have a pumpkin in charge of our country who is willing to sell off forests / your northern mams to make the deficit smaller, we're going to have to compromise. And don't complain, some of you voted for them - see stockton - HAVE YOU NO BRAINZ?!

Right, I agree it needs to charge a fee to keep it afloat, fair enough.

Again, kicks the dickheads out.
less twats

I don't agree with this ^ to be honest. I thought having a mix of all sorts of people is what it's all about? no? I don't mind that there's chavs there, it's not a high-brow event after all.. should be open to everyone. If ya want to see a band that desperate you'd pay to see them wherever, yeah? Who are the twats and dickheads? They're just drunk teenagers in the main, I used to get proper mashed and roll around on the grass like a right muppet also.. evreyones been there!!  :)

As far as keeping em out, not so sure a couple of quid is gunna put the mockers on that, they'd have to charge a tenner to really eek them out!!

Woah now! You linked Twats with Chavs, not me. I'm all for a socially inclusive event, I just believe putting a charge on the event will put off some people going who are looking for trouble and trust me that isn't open to chavs alone. Putting a charge on the event could also pay for more event stewarding and other resources to make the day a better experience for families and individuals.

That's what Boro Music Live is all about. Check out prices for day tickets for equivalent festivals like Camden Crawl, In the City, Leeds Live, Great Escape, even Evo - we've been lucky buggers

Amused at one of the comments complaining the work is getting farmed to Ten Feet Tall, who as fairly well known local promotors may have a slightly large address book than this 'Judith Croft' lady.

thats the way of world. pay or lose it i don`t mind paying couple of quid or Even 10 last year I was stamping wrist bands at evoltion because of this as volenter as got in for free the crowd was still big for a paid event. but the line up was pretty amazing and there was an area of stails and shops (top shop Pizza express, jaggermister). it didn`t put people off. in fact i saw people trying to buy other people`s wrist bands for double the price. and also this could mean in future any surplus founds could be used for bigger things next year.

as for the local stages Evolation has thoseand A and R people still go to them. it`s

I fully believe this can only make things better. Evolution was great in that it's proven that a free festival can turn into a paying festival and go from strengths to strengths, before then I'd have been sceptical that it would work, but now I can see it working. Everyone moaned when it turned into a paying festival, but as soon as lineups were announced everyone shut right up and bought into it.

I like the idea of specialised stands, a Jagertent specifically... I'm going to write a massive suggestion note and stick it in TFT Towers!

Hate to take this off topic, but anyone know how you get to play the local stages at MML this year? My band are really up for it. :)

Same way as always, there will be demo submission boxes in HMV ooops, missed the post saying they're changing the way they do things (probably to reduce the hefty workload put on poor Henry and the lads who fish through the demos!)
If you keep an eye on the MML official FB page it'll tell you when submissions are opening and other ways to submit your demo/press pack :)

We'll be making an announcement about this in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to hearing lots of great local bands!

It's looking like it'll all be done electronically this time around and involve Soundcloud and Dropbox, but we'll make an announcement once everything is finalised...
