Could be an idea.

The most interesting thing is that this has been one of the more actives thread of late, so lets go with that.

What do you guys, as site users, want from the site?

A one stop shop where I can be recommended good tunes/bands/nights out/films with posters opinons and a place to have shit banter and see funny stuff.

I heard you have a compilation of every good song ever done by anybody. Every great song by the Beach Boys. All the underground hits. All the Modern Lovers tracks. I heard you have a vinyl of every Niagra record on German import. I heard that you have a white label of every seminal Detroit techno hit - 1985, '86, '87. I heard that you have a CD compilation of every good '60s cut and another box set from the '70s.

I think everything in one board is a good idea. Well try it out anyway.

I'd take off the guests being able to read things.... if you want to read you've to log in. That might get people posting more.

I disagree, why would they join something they can't read so they don't even know if it's the type of thing they're after? Personally I'm not a fan of boards that force you to join up to read them, just my opinion though!

Any website I visit that requires me to sign up first gets an instant fuck off. Also, most of the time you usually find out the community is dead if you do sign up. Only a few websites have proved an exception to this in my experience.

Throwing everything into a core group of forums could be cool. I agree with some of the other members, I must only check about four of the subforums at the moment. Adding a little anarchy and making the place look a little lawless wouldn't damage anything, I think people might actually feel like they can unwind a bit more by saying whatever they want rather than spending that time figuring out where exactly to post it.

Yeah we've currently got a little test area up with just the 4 forums to see how it will look and its quite tidy. I agree about websites forcing you to signup, unless im desperate for something and its shown up on google's cache, i normally just fuck it off.

Shrike is currently working on the Facebook integration, and I'm taking a detailed look at all our SEO stuff as somehow its all been stripped out so we dont show up in any searches directly (e.g middlesbrough forum) unless there are any posts about it, so thats pretty major.

The other forums I use haven't wained in popularity, and everyone on them uses Facebook so I think the issue is more to do with Haxed rather than what other social networking is available.

As stated, there's way too many sections and a 'view active topics' is a popular button to have to save trawling through the boards.

You also need something to add value to the site, and I feel the music/gigs side of the site is the strongest seller so to speak. I'm thinking aloud here...

Why not look to tie in with a local club night, or promoter (TFT, Georgian, Crown, Club Strut, Green Dragon Studios, Arena etc) and run a Battle of the Bands/acoustic night/gig in conjunction with Haxed? The site has to be the point of contact, non of this send a CD in. I presume a lot of bands will have tracks uploaded and you could have a thread on it, vote for the best band to play the gig etc. The supporters would register and vote, hopefully bringing new members to the board helping to build the community back up. It's not like you don't have the contacts/ability to do this.

Does Haxed do any promotion in the schools and colleges?
What about asking the local promoters to advertise* on the boards more?
Competitions - I've done the odd few on here for decent comedy tickets. Again, I know you have the contacts to blag a few freebies here and there.

Just a few ideas.

*I mean as in "The Arena is looking for new local rock bands to play "x" night, please post a link to a track here with your contact details and we'll be in touch"

Finally, I see some people still can't resist a pop at Jamie if he rears his head on here. It's quite sad really.

It depends on whats being offer. Take Chortle for example, it's quite specialised in what it does and has national focus. We're a regional forum that sprung up initially as just a group of friends (95% have long since moved on) and since is quite locally focussed. I agree its not entirely facebooks fault, but it did replace a large amount of the site's primary functions. I think if we had kept up with it at the time it wouldnt have been so bad, but we were each busy with our own lives i guess, but its not too late really.

Yeah, we are cutting it down to 4 forums. 'General, 'Music', 'Gigs & Tours' and 'Nights Out'. The last two will be calendar linked and for promoters and bands to use. Gigs and Tours covering concerts, standup, stage etc. nights out for club nights.  I'm hoping we can get a post icons system so that you can filter to see posts about certain topics which removes the need for sub forums but also means you dont necessarily have to filter through everything; this works pretty well on other forums. By the way, there is an active topics feature, you can click at the top; Show unread posts since last visit & Show new replies to your posts; theyre quite handy. Would be good if there was a way to flter it to see the top 10 busiest threads in the past 2 weeks or so or something, but that's one for the future i think.

I agree that this is a good idea in principle, but we need to sort out the site infrastructure first. By that I mean the facebook integration, front page and the forum structure. For the front page, integration with common forum posts, news articles, and links to social media as well. Coupled with a regular newsletter package i;m looking at that lets us track clicks, delivery and let people unsubscribe on their own and that will make that far more easier to manage too. Once we've got all the back end stuff sorted then I'd love to get involved in some events like the above, as well as sorting stuff like posters, flyers, advertising on other sites etc but i think it needs to be this way round really.

agree with this too. not with schools as i'd rather target the 16+ crowd as a minimum with a preference of mostly 18+, but again i think we need to get our 'product' sorted first before we blast it with promotion. I'd be able to round up loads of offers, freebies and all sorts of other stuff too, but again we need to make sure we've got our affairs in order here first.
