The Event
« on: September 21, 2010, 10:20:38 am »

So NBC's new Lost-style program kicked off last night, here's the official synopsis for anyone who's not come across it yet:

"The Event is an emotional, high-octane conspiracy thriller that follows Sean Walker (Jason Ritter, "The Class"), an everyman who investigates the mysterious disappearance of his would-be fiancée Leila (Sarah Roemer, "Disturbia"), and unwittingly begins to expose the biggest cover-up in U.S. history.

Sean's quest will send ripples through the lives of an eclectic band of strangers, including newly elected U.S. President Elias Martinez (Golden Globe nominee Blair Underwood, "In Treatment"); Sophia Maguire (Emmy Award nominee Laura Innes, "ER"), who is the leader of a mysterious group of detainees; and Leila's shadowy father (Scott Patterson, "Gilmore Girls"). Their futures are on a collision course in a global conspiracy that could ultimately change the fate of mankind. "

Good solid casting line-up, could be pretty decent.

I wasn't massively impressed, the concept was quite good and I imagine it could pick up a lot but there was a few parts I had no interest in and the editing wasn't amazing. I'll give it a few episodes to see if it improves.

Episode 2 is up for downlizzle now, I've not watched it yet. I'm hoping that the editing feels a bit smoother and it gets cracking a bit more.

The second ep was better, but I have absolutely no interested in the guy character (so little interest that I don't even know his name). The alien/President stuff is far more interesting mind, the editing is terrible, flash forwards and flash backs are so overused now that I'm frankly sick to death of them. It *might* improve, but I'm only giving it 5 episodes now, there's just far too much to watch at the moment.

it's like the dreaded plot device where you see something surprising and then get '24 hours earlier'

except thats the whole show. binned.

Yeah, I've ended up binning it off too now. The io9 recaps are far more entertaining.

Pathetically I actually quite like it!! It's cheesy as hell but it's quite good fun

i'm really liking it but hope it doesn't last forever. The last two episodes have been a bit 'meh' though.

Would quite like a few more surprises and actually EVENTS happening.

Well that's never a good sign, if they reshoot and try and up the crazy conspiracy level I'll get back involved with it.
