More laptop problems
« on: October 24, 2010, 02:27:14 pm »

In January my boyfriends HDD on his laptop went, before I could get anybody else to fix it he'd took it to the local computer shop.
Who then did a shite job of installing a new one, as it then had to go back for more repairs as the blue screen of death came back twice!

They installed a new version of vista (my boyfriend had lost the recovery CD), and used the product key from the bottom of the laptop.

All was fine for a few months, but then a week ago when he tried to start it up and log in to windows a screen came up saying his version of Windows had 'expired'.

Was then taken back to the computer shop who had done all the work on it before and had obviously fucked up yet again.

They've had it for a week, and have 'contacted microsoft' but apart from that have done nothing.

Getting a bit fucked off with them, as they messed us about before and are quite clearly doing it again.

If they installed a fresh copy of windows, then surely they should of used a brand new product key and not the one from the bottom of the laptop? Are they at fault, and what do they need to do to fix it?

It's a shit laptop, and we are in the process of getting funds for a new one, but until then it's the only one he's got!

Go here

http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder/

Run that and it will tell you what key the laptop was installed with.

They probably just used whatever cd key they had to hand at the time.
