I know a lot of people use this to manage their emails and contacts and what not, I've tried it before but a few things put me off especially in comparison to gmail's own UI and the gmail notifier addon in firefox. So could someone tell me exactly what advantages are there to use Outlook? If anything significant at all?

And one of the things that put me off was the fact that it doesnt seem to tell you straight away when you receive new emails (like gmail notifier) unless you do a manual update, is there a way around that?

Also, if anyone uses Onenote to set up tasks, is it possible to set reminder alerts for the tasks?

It's just a pretty standard mail client. You can set it to check your mail server as often as you like and notify you of new mail.

Unless you want to be able to do tasks and such based off the email Outlook is just a waste of memory.

I get Google to sync my contacts directly through to my phone with some Google back-end Exchange voodoo.

Doesn't Gmail notifier check for emails at certain intervals?  When I used it by default it was set to do so every 10 minutes.

I use Outlook at home as it syncs well with the calender and contacts on my phone and as I've been using it for years now my junk filters are well established.

Yeah gmail notifier is great for that. I cant seem to be able to export my contacts from my SE phone to outlook for the life of me so it's useless for me until i figure out how. Someone said something about using outlook as the contact manager in the SE PC Suite but i havent got a clue how

Me neither, took what you said on board Fash and took the plunge... Its remarkably similar to the nokia interface that i know and love... (similar is actually being the 5th ed of the nokia S60 software, the same as what is on the N97, 5800 express etc)

I thought that outlook was tightly bound to exchange, and that outside of that environment works as a shitty imap/pop3 client
