But all that video evidence surely would overthrow that decision  WTF
Things like this are why I turned to supporting NFL more than our football, they actually check before any decision stands.

Sorry, I hadn't actually read the whole thread if I'm honest, I was just chipping in!

Its just stupid really, FIFA are just being cocks, they claim to be standing by their referees yet they continue to make their jobs increasingly more difficult.

Typically, the refs have good games, make one mistake (through no fault of their own) and thats ALL theyr remembered for! Like has been said, until that decision, the ref was having a brilliant game..... FIFA stop being cocks and bring on the replays!

should use video evidence not to force replays etc as i think that just fucks around with the flow of the game, but to punish individual players. if you got a 3 month ban from football for something like that youd think twice about doing it, or soon own up to the ref about it!

You wouldn't be able to use them to force a replay anyway without changing the rules of the game. The only instance of a replay being ordered was when the referee made a mistake in interpreting the rules, not missing an incident. It wouldn't interrupt the flow of any game because the instances in which replays are used usually cause stoppages anyway.
Any goal or foul results in a break in play. If anything it would improve the flow of play because players would eventually realise there's no point arguing with a decision if the replay shows what happened beyond doubt.

Football is quite fast paced tho, if someone handballs in the box then its hoofed away, stopping play because the 4th official flags up that a penalty should have been given would be shite in my book. Footballs managed for hundreds of years without video replays!

I honestly think a good system would be the one used in the NFL - give each side a maximum number of challenges per half. If the team's upset about anything, the manager can call for the fourth official to look at a replay of the incident next time play is inactive. It shouldn't be too difficult. Keep it to a max of 3 challenges per team per half and you're talking about adding a total extra of maybe 3 to 5 minutes max per half. To account for shorter halves in extra time, reduce these to 1 challenge per team per half.

I don't think it'd hurt or over-complicate anything. And I'd certainly prefer that matches like the one in midweek took a minute or two longer to get to penalties, rather than a clear moment of out-and-out gamesmanship dumping probably the more deserving side out of a big tournament.

I agree totally with you there. It has managed for years but in years past nobody else had access to replays either. The problem is now that everyone but the ref has access to video replays which is undermining referees all over the place. In the past it was easy enough to argue the point that the ref's decision was final but now when you're seeing the ref on the pitch saying one thing even when the crowd are watching something else on the big screens it makes a mockery of the game.

If there was a handball in the box that was then hoofed away it would only be an issue if somebody questioned it. Things wouldn't change massively anyway but it'd be nice if the ref had the option not to look like an idiot through no fault of his own when he's the only one out of the millions watching the game not to see something.

Doesn't always work well in rugby, but it's certainly made the job of the ref easier

I agree entirely, what good is it doing the ref when theres the millions watching the TV, as well as the managers etc questioning the capability of the ref... its difficult enough for them as it is to make the difficult decisions without knowing that if they get it wrong they willl be criticised for ages to come. You see it week in week out, a blatant tug on a shirt outside the box is a definite free kick, yet a more aggressive tug in the box isnt? go figure..... WTF

I can honestly see it getting to the point in  a couple of years where there're ten thousand or more fans watching all the replays on their mobiles. When it gets to that point and the ref still can't consult a monitor it gonna be ridiculous.
