If I wanted to get started in doing stand-up, how could I go about doing that?

talk to peter vincent, he does most of the comedy round here.

info@thefunnymagnet.co.uk i think or hell be around here sooner or later.

id imagine gong shows, open mic nights and open spots on gigs around established comedians are your best bets to get a bit of exposure and work on your routine

thanks, I've been thinking for awhile that i would like to try it out someday.

I live in middlesbrough and the only thing i've heard there is around here is the funny magnet (that used to be at dickens inn, now the crypt) and the comedy club in stockton,  I read that these places aren't doing open slots anymore..

and i just wondered if anyone would know what i could do.

We don't do open spots at Fm Middlesbrough, the gig is only new and its far more important to establish the gig first before newbies go on. I'm not saying it won't happen but not just yet.

C22 ~ we do opens but I look to book acts which have a little bit of experience. Ideally what I look to book for C22 is acts I'm looking at to move onto paid work at other gigs.

You're best bet is to contact Al Dawes on longlivecomedy@yahoo.co.uk

He runs (with others) some good nights which do feature open spots. You should easily be able to get on the bill.

There's the Manchester Comedy Forum

http://mikelanders.myzen.co.uk/phpBB2/index.php

and Yorkshire comedy

http://www.yorkshirecomedy.com/home.html

For info on gigs further a field.

Thank you guys, I have found out their website/blog and been thinking about it. I have a friend of mine who actually used to work at the comedy club down in greenwich, booking acts. He's been a massive help, telling me tips and he's been greatly nitpicking my set. great help. But It's just getting there from Middlesbrough to Newcastle that's the problem, I just need to get my arse into gear.
