Was old even then Ashe. Was in use on Fido (and, no doubt the Internet) long before I even heard of the Internet. Back in the olden days, being able to transmit and receive at 50 characters per second was unbelievably fast, and phone calles were megabucks per milisecond .. every saved character counted ;)

Levo, the infinity sign is not in the ASCII character set, and certainly not supported as a single byte character by HTML Not YaBB SE's fault. I can blame it for not dealing with ∞ properly though >:(

Extended ASCII Codes
As people gradually required computers to understand additional characters and non-printing characters the ASCII set became restrictive. As with most technology, it took a while to get a single standard for these extra characters and hence there are few varying 'extended' sets. The most popular is presented below.

Yes, the infinity sign is character 236 in that character set. ASCII defines up to character 127, and no more. That character set you describe I (I think) the US (Western) IBM PC console character set. Different countries used different extended sets depending on individual requirements. Most modern fonts do not bother defining those characters, and certainly not with much in the way of predicability. That is the reason Unicode came about, and is the reason why HTML defines a shed-load of 'character entities' (such as ∞ ) - to enable people to reliably display non-ASCII characters.

Your (or other people's) browsers not defining character 236 in the same way is not a fault with YaBB SE. The inability to incorrectly deal with ∞ is a bug.

He wasn't, but famous players like that always give shout outs to friends and other people like Rhyzz from Team UK playing as Rhyzz <3 Heaton after he 5 manned 4^kings with a P90 on Aztec.
