How much do DSLR's cost...
« on: September 05, 2005, 01:41:43 pm »

...for a reasonably good second hand one? With a few lenses thrown in.

Not really in a position to buy one at the moment but depending on how I survive on the money I'm going to get
I might spend the overdraft on it :ninja
. How very irresponsible.

if you want to get a digital SLR then id say you're going to be looking at 400 plus for something half decent.

look in haxed mart, theres a canon 300D for sale 400 ono. thats with an 18-55 EF-S lens (made specially for digital as they have a 1.5x magnifier) some filters and a 1gb compact flash card, case etc. The canon 300D is what i started out in photography with and its reliable, easy to use & of good quality.

for something brand new youd be looking at 550-700 depending on how you wanted to go, but id definitely say go used, and save the money for a better lens (which i can also reccomend  8) )

My personal reccomendation though is dont spend you overdraft on that!

Especially if your off to uni, in a few months time if you do you'll wish you hadnt!

Haha, no I wasn't really serious. If I did then I'd wait for a bit so I knew I could survive on what I'm getting

After fees and accomodation I'm going to have around 100 a week, which I think should be enough. But still, not really going to spend the overdraft on it.

"what can i survive on everyday for a month whilst getting the least bored of? pasta or rice?"

noticably shit, after you use a half decent dslr you'll never be able to use anything less. Second hand all the way.

CANON EOS 350D BLACK (BODY ONLY)      579.99

CANON EOS 350D BLACK + EF-S 18-55mm LENS      649.99

NIKON      D50 (BODY ONLY)      549.99

NIKON      D50 + 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 G ED LENS      599.99

NIKON      D70s (BODY ONLY)      699.99

CANON      EOS 20D DIGITAL SLR (BODY ONLY)      999.99

CANON      EOS 20D + EF-S 18-55mm f/4-5.6 LENS      1049.99

So if you buy new you do get a *slightly* better spec'd camera, but youre paying an extra 150-400 for features youll barely notice the difference on.

If you buy used, that much money can buy a few decent lenses on top which you would definitely see the benefit of. Also note that body only sets dont come with lenses so you have to buy on top.

I wish I had 400 knocking about but I don't  :( . Well I do but I should probably save it, after all I don't really "need" a camera.

if you think 400 is a lot of money then a DSLR is probably an unwise purchase  ;D I've spent about 3 grand on camera and lenses in past year and a bit and theres still more stuff I want.

If you wanan give it a cheap try, buy amy's nikon film SLR for 25

I've already got a film SLR (although the mirror just locked up and blow me if I know how to fix it, so I might very well have to have that camera).

I was just wondering how much they go for second hand, I'll probably have enough but I'd rather wait until I'm sure rather than having to go without food beer.
