Student Loans
« on: September 04, 2005, 07:53:00 pm »

Am I right in thinking that you get a letter from the SLC two weeks before your start date telling you how much your getting and when? I hope so because I've yet to hear anything at all from them, all I've had is the LEA send my forms back once because I make a mistake on them.

I don't start till October 7th so a a week or two late wouldn't matter too much, how common is this?
I sent my forms off 2 months late, I'm guessing this'll effect it  :ninja
Money is due in on the first day of your year, hence mine (if I was requesting one) would be the 3rd October

I know a lot of people who had been late with submissions and they got the loan on time, however I also know quite a few that didnt, caused some major problems for a couple of them..... Just keep hoping your lucky!

ive had mine late, its really annoying, you have to get an "emergency loan" and then whe you go to pay the loan back, they pay it towards your tuition fees and try and chrage you extra for the loan, cunts.

On a completely unrelated note, HSBC have got back to me saying I've got a student account. To get the overdraft is all I have to do take back the confirmation slip.

You can probably get a hardship loan from your uni (if your really lucky you might get a grant)

you have to go to the student services which is upstairs in the building behind the dickenns (cant remember the name of any of the buildings) you have a meeting with someone and explain why you need it. then they give you a form saying you can get the cash, and then you go over to the finance department in the tower and they give you the cash. can get up to 250 emergency loan.

some housing ppl ask for a cheque with no date on then you ring em and tell them when your loan is in and they will add the date and cash the cheque
