The other forums I use haven't wained in popularity, and everyone on them uses Facebook so I think the issue is more to do with Haxed rather than what other social networking is available.
As stated, there's way too many sections and a 'view active topics' is a popular button to have to save trawling through the boards.
You also need something to add value to the site, and I feel the music/gigs side of the site is the strongest seller so to speak. I'm thinking aloud here...
Why not look to tie in with a local club night, or promoter (TFT, Georgian, Crown, Club Strut, Green Dragon Studios, Arena etc) and run a Battle of the Bands/acoustic night/gig in conjunction with Haxed? The site has to be the point of contact, non of this send a CD in. I presume a lot of bands will have tracks uploaded and you could have a thread on it, vote for the best band to play the gig etc. The supporters would register and vote, hopefully bringing new members to the board helping to build the community back up. It's not like you don't have the contacts/ability to do this.
Does Haxed do any promotion in the schools and colleges?
What about asking the local promoters to advertise* on the boards more?
Competitions - I've done the odd few on here for decent comedy tickets. Again, I know you have the contacts to blag a few freebies here and there.
Just a few ideas.
*I mean as in "The Arena is looking for new local rock bands to play "x" night, please post a link to a track here with your contact details and we'll be in touch"
Finally, I see some people still can't resist a pop at Jamie if he rears his head on here. It's quite sad really.
